Course Content
UNIT NO 1
Fire Safety Principles.
This unit is designed to give you all the underpinning knowledge required to complete the fire marshal role. The individual learning outcomes are as follows:
Outcome one:
Understand the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace
To achieve this outcome, you will be able to:
- Explain how fires are caused
- Describe the fire triangle
- Identify the hazards during a fire
- Describe the characteristics of fire and smoke spread
Outcome two:
Understand how fire risk is controlled in the workplace
To achieve this outcome, you will be able to:
- State the different methods used to identify and control fire hazards
- Defines means of escape
- Describe methods of fire detection
- Describe how fire may be extinguished
- Describe the use of portable fire-fighting equipment
- Identify common fixed fire-fighting systems
Outcome three:
Understand the principles and practice of fire safety management at work
To achieve this outcome, you will be able to:
- Outline the duties of employers and employees
- Outline how to undertake a simple fire inspection
- Describe the stages in a fire risk assessment
Outcome four:
Understand the role of the nominated fire warden
To achieve this outcome, you will be able to:
- State the role and function of a fire warden in the workplace
- Outline the content of a fire safety briefing
