A career in teaching can be very rewarding as you inspire learners and deliver the right teaching aids for their growth.

If you are already working in a school and have completed a Level 2 qualification in Support Teaching and Learning or another similar award, then why stop there?

The traditional role of a teacher has come a long way with many new positions and responsibilities available for those with the right experience. Growing your skills on a practical and theoretical level will make you the perfect candidate and a Level 3 qualification can help.

However, we understand that completing further training can be difficult when you work full-time or have other commitments, but that shouldn’t get in the way. Online training courses often the way forward as they are much easier to fit around your lifestyle.

Teaching a Class

As the experts in adult learning courses, we’ve put together this helpful blog with all you need to know about the Level 3 certificate and how it could help your career. Read on to find out more.

What do Level 3 teacher training courses involve?

If teaching is something you enjoy then growing your skillset is a practical way of building your career. Although it is about your experience in teaching settings, it’s also about learning how to navigate the sector properly. Theoretical learning will give you the confidence you need to do your job well and gain a recognised qualification.

Here we give you an overview of the course and what you can expect when you enrol.

What qualification do you get?

If you wish to teach in the Further Education & Skills Sector or you deliver training in the workplace, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RFQ) is ideal for you. This Level 3 Teaching Qualification is the perfect foundation for those with little or no experience of training or teaching. It is designed to be an introductory qualification to the adult education sector. This qualification was previously recognised as PTLLS.

Course Structure and Content

The course covers several topics and aims to build on the knowledge of relationships, teaching approaches and more. Despite this being a distance course, you will gain invaluable knowledge whether you have little or no experience of training or teaching. It is designed to be an introductory qualification to the adult education sector.

Every course will be slightly different depending on the awarding body. At CTC Training our Level 3 Award has the following structure and content:

Course Content

Understanding the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

This part of your course will introduce you to the important aspects of teaching such as health and safety, equal opportunities and other professionals you may have to work with.

Understanding and using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in education and training

Next you will find out more about how people learn. Everyone excels in different ways so acknowledging this will help you to understand new teaching methods and how people communicate. This will help you meet the needs of your learners and teach them effectively.

Understanding the principles and practices of assessment

The third unit focuses on how to deliver excellent assessment practice. The unit is ideal for anybody with an interest in assessing workplace achievement or those delivering regulated qualifications and awards.

Teaching Style

Our Level 3 Award is a distance course which means all work is completed online.

CTC Training offer a range of high-quality resources in our online portfolio as well as interactive content and assignment uploading – you’ll have 24/7 access to this. Everyone who is enrolled also has unlimited tutor support throughout the duration of the course.

How long does the course take?

The Level 3 Teaching Qualification has an approximate study period of 120 hours. However, the great thing about an online course is you can complete each unit as and when is most convenient for you as long as it’s within 12 months of enrolling.

Depending on your experience and knowledge of teaching, the course usually takes around five to six months to complete but can be quicker or longer depending on your other commitments. You may choose to do part-time teaching training or condense your award into just a few weeks.

At CTC Training, we’re proud that we’ve become the training provider of choice for such a wide range of businesses and individuals across the country. Our professional team aims to make your learning experience the best it can be, offering support wherever you need it.

How is the course assessed?

This is a regulated qualification, so to receive your certificate you must provide evidence of your competency through assessments throughout the course.

Written assignments

Based on course content, the written assignments will demonstrate your understanding of what you’ve learnt and how it can be used in real teaching situations. The assignments will consist of around 150-200 words, relating to the theory and real workplace teaching situations. Your tutor will assess these and give you feedback on your work, with an opportunity to resubmit if additional work is required.

Microteaching

Since this is an online course that doesn’t include placement, the final assessment is the delivery of a 15-minute recording to demonstrate what you have learned from unit 3 – the principles and practices of assessment.

This should include an introduction, aims and outcomes, ice breaker and health and safety. Delivery of a lesson using a range of resources and a summary of the lesson you have planned. To support this, a written plan should accompany the recording to explain the reasoning behind what you’ve presented as well as self-evaluation of your performance.
