Attending a corporate training session is a great opportunity to develop new skills and learn from the experts, so it’s important to make the most of it. After all, you want to make sure you leave the training session feeling confident and prepared, whether you have attended a one-day first aid training session or you are part way through a health and safety course. No matter what you are working towards, make sure you maximise your opportunities with our top tips for making the most of a corporate training day.
Read the session’s itinerary
Getting prepared ahead of the training day is the golden rule to making the most of it. Ask your chosen training provider for a copy of the session’s itinerary and conduct some of your own research at home. Although everything you need to know will be covered during the session, it pays to have a basic grasp of what you’ll be learning. This way, you will be prepared to ask questions and to clear up anything you don’t quite understand.
Be prepared
Make sure you arrive at the training day with a notebook and pen. You will likely want to take notes and having these resources to hand will prevent any disruptions during the session. You should also take a water bottle and lunch (if required) so that you’re comfortable throughout the day.
Sit near the front
The last thing you want is to miss important pieces of information because you’re sitting too far away from the speaker, so make sure you sit near the front and have a clear view of the screen. This will also make it easier to put your hand up and ask questions.
Ask questions
This is your opportunity to talk to the experts and get all the information you need to excel in your chosen field. Make the most of it by asking questions and making sure you fully understand the answers given. Many training providers will often hang around after the training session to give you the chance to ask questions, if you would prefer to talk to them one-on-one.
Take the speaker’s contact details
At the end of the corporate training day, the speaker delivering the session may share his or her contact information. If they do, make a note of their email address and ask if they would be happy to answer any questions you have in the future.
Review what you have learned
After the training day, take an hour to sit and review what you have learned. While the content is still fresh in your mind, rewrite any notes you scribbled down in a rush or type them up neatly to ensure you have a resource readily available for revision or future course assignments. If there is anything you didn’t get the chance to discuss with your training provider, spend time doing your own research to make sure you’re clear on the topic.
