Full-time, permanent TAs can expect to earn the following salaries:
Level 1: £17,364
Level 2: 18,000-20,000
Level 3 and those with additional specialisms or SEN responsibilities: £25,000+

The median salary for an HLTA in the UK is £23,400 yearly or £12 per hour. The most experienced workers make up to £28,917 per year.
What additional responsibilities will an HLTA have?
HLTAs get paid more than standard teaching assistants because of the extra responsibilities they take on.
In addition to having all the same responsibilities as a lower level teaching assistant, a HLTA will also:
- Work as a cover supervisor
- Cover lessons if required
How do I become an HLTA?
HLTAs are teaching assistants who have undergone additional training and development. If you wish to become a qualified HLTA, we strongly recommend completing the Level 4 Certificate in Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).
The Level 4 qualification is for learners who are currently employed in a teaching assistant role and wish to progress to Higher Level Teaching Assistant status.
