The CTC Training team would like to wish good health to everyone who has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the virus continues to alter the way we live, work and play, CTC Training is committed to ensuring that every student can still obtain the qualifications they need to further their career.

The following article details the changes that have been made either by CTC Training or our awarding body, TQUK.

FAQS

Are you still open and accepting enrolments?

Yes. CTC Training has remained open throughout the pandemic and will continue to do so in line with any new restrictions. All our tutors can work from home and will continue to offer the same levels of support without any service interruption.

Are you modifying your courses to make them easier to complete in lockdown?

Students must complete all of the required assessments in order to gain their nationally recognised certificate. As CTC courses are online, all of the assessments can be completed while in lockdown, and therefore no modifications were necessary.

How do I collect workplace competency-based assignment evidence?

If your workplace is currently shut, we ask that you complete the theory elements of your course from home and complete competency elements when your workplace reopens. This applies to Level 4 and 5 Education and Training, Level 3 Assessing, IQA (award and leading only).

Our Measures

The following measures have been introduced following the COVID-19 outbreak. Some measures apply to those who have registered for the affected course before September 1st 2020, and others apply to those who registered after September 1st 2020.

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF)

  • For the microteach, where it is safe and appropriate, direct observation of performance remains the preferred method of assessment. Where it is not safe or possible to conduct direct observations, remote observation may be used. An explanation as to why the direct observation was not possible must be produced.

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF)

For Learners registered before the 1st of September 2020:

  • Learners to be passed if all assignments passed satisfactorily and at least 20 hours of teaching practice complete with 2 satisfactory observations – both of which may be remote (adapted from 30 hours with 3 observations, and no reference to remote) where it is not safe or possible to conduct direct observations. An explanation as to why the direct observation was not possible must be produced.

For Learners registered on or after the 1st of September 2020:

  • Learners to be passed if all assignments passed satisfactorily and 30 hours of teaching practice complete with 3 satisfactory observations – all 3 of which may be remote where it is not safe or possible to conduct direct observations. An explanation as to why the direct observation was not possible must be produced.
  • Observation, where the delivery itself is remote, can take the form of assessment of materials created and any interactions alongside a professional discussion.

Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF)

For Learners registered before the 1st of September 2020:

Providing that the student teacher has satisfactorily completed all other in course assignment work, it is acceptable for Awarding Organisations to award a Pass to student teachers who have:

  • Completed at least 70% of their teaching placement hours (providing that a majority is group teaching rather than one-to-one teaching).
  • Completed at least 6 of their 8 observations where the most recent 4 have been satisfactory.
  • Additionally, where there are insufficient observations completed and the placement is continuing but the provider team is unable to complete any observations, these may be done in this instance by the placement mentor.

For Learners registered on or after the 1st of September 2020:

  • Where it is safe and appropriate, direct observation of performance remains the preferred method of assessment. Where it is not safe or possible to conduct direct observations, remote observation may be used. An explanation as to why the direct observation was not possible must be produced.
  • Observation, where the delivery itself is remote, can take the form of assessment of materials created and any interactions alongside a professional discussion

Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF)

  • Observations may be conducted remotely where it is not safe or possible to conduct direct observations. An explanation as to why the direct observation was not possible must be produced.
  • Observation, where the assessment itself is remote, can take the form of assessment of any interactions alongside a professional discussion.

Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (RQF)

Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (RQF)

Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (RQF)

Level 4 Certificate in Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (RQF)

  • Expert Witness Testimonies may be utilised to describe an event which is retrospective as long as the event took place during the candidate’s registration period. In all cases, the expectation is that all assessment criteria should be referenced to evidence which has been assessed and that performance evidence is used for competence assessment criteria. This may mean, where assessments have been conducted face to face, they can be changed to a suitably robust method of remote assessment. Additionally, work products should be utilised extensively for relevant competency criteria.

With more time spent at home, CTC Training welcomes new students to obtain nationally recognised qualifications from the safety and comfort of your own home. You’ll continue to receive all the great benefits of the CTC Training course in spite of the pandemic, including one-to-one support from a tutor and 24/7 access to the student portal so that you can work at your own pace.
